What Cardfight!! Vanguard Actually Is
It’s a trading card game where you punch your opponent in the face with cards. Not metaphorically. You deal six damage to their Vanguard.
That’s it.
I play it. I’ve lost more times than I’ll admit. You start with a Grade 0 unit as your Vanguard.
Then you ride (swap) it. For stronger Grade 1s, then Grade 2s, then Grade 3s. Riding isn’t optional.
It’s how you scale.
Your Rear-guards back you up. They sit behind your Vanguard and attack or boost power. Drive Check?
You draw two cards each time you attack. Sometimes you get extra triggers. Sometimes you don’t.
(Spoiler: You usually don’t.)
Damage Check happens when you take damage. Flip a card. If it’s a trigger, you might draw or heal.
If it’s not? You just took damage.
Grade matters. You can’t ride a Grade 2 unless you already have a Grade 1 on the field. It’s not complicated.
But it feels complicated until you’ve done it five times.

Name it something real (like) “Red Rush Week 3” not “My Deck”.

What’s Actually on Your Screen Right Now
You see two fields. Yours. Theirs.
That’s it. Everything else feeds into those.
The damage zone is where your units go when they get hit. Drop zone is where cards land after effects resolve. Bind zone holds cards that are locked out of play.
Your deck sits at the bottom. Trigger zone is where you check for automatic effects.
You drag cards to move them. Right-click any card to call, ride, or activate something. Try it.
See what happens.
Chat works like any chat. Type. Hit enter.
Don’t spam. Don’t rage. You’re playing a game (not) auditioning for reality TV.
‘End Turn’ ends your turn. ‘Pass Priority’ lets your opponent act now instead of waiting. ‘Confirm’ locks in choices. ‘Undo’ fixes mistakes (but) only before you confirm.
The game log scrolls every action. Read it. Double-check it.
If something feels off, scroll back. Fair play starts with you watching the log.

Your First Turn, Explained

I stood there staring at my hand.
You will too.
Stand Phase first. All your units stand. No choices here.
Just do it.
Draw Phase next. Draw one card. That’s it.
Ride Phase is where things get real. You play a new vanguard from your hand. It must be the same clan as your current vanguard.
Or one grade higher. OTVPGamers shows you valid rides with green highlights. If none light up, you can’t ride.
Simple.
Main Phase is where you call rear-guards. Click a unit. Pay its cost.
Counterblast? Tap two cards from your damage zone. Soulblast?
Send one from your soul to the drop zone. Watch the interface. It tells you what’s needed.
Battle Phase: pick an attacker. Choose a target. Hit “Attack.” Then Drive Check.
Flip the top card of your deck. Trigger? Apply it now.
Key? Add another attack. Heal?
Remove a damage. Got a trigger? You’ll see it pop up.
End Phase cleans up. Draw triggers go to your hand. Damage stays.
Read every card. Out loud if you have to. Your opponent’s text matters just as much.
